Every Muslim should always be a student (Muta'allim), whatever his profession and how old they are. "Tuntutlah science until the grave!" Is the call so that we do not ever let go of status as a student. Even a person who has title Kiai, professor and doctoral still have to learn.
When they 'retire' so students, then science will die. Does not develop and no additional knowledge. Hence, the profession is to be a student of all time. Students not only learn in school institutions, boarding schools, and universities. "Whoever increases his knowledge, but not increased guidance, it will be more distant from God." (Narrated by Abu Nu'aim). The first group, the group survived, while the second and third type includes the potential to become leaders and scientists who dzalim. The first group includes students who understand the concept of science correctly, the intention to eliminate ignorance in order to get now accepteth thy God. Diamalkan their knowledge for the benefit of the people rather than for personal enjoyment.
The second and third class is a group of prosecutors that materialist science, which is in search of knowledge to worldly purposes. So ukhrawi aspects do not become the basis of seeking knowledge. Science becomes a mess when they lose the guidance of adab and conceded the concept of materialism. According to Syed Naquib al-Attas, sciences that has been mixed with the concept of 'foreign' is essentially not a science anymore, but something that masquerades as science (Proceedings To the Muslims, 61). So science is essential that do not release ukhrawi dimension, while 'science' in disguise is otherwise called madzmumah science.
In connection with that, it is important to know the students and teachers that science is hierarchically divided in two. First, the science of Introduction. That is the science of the spiritual nature of God and self-refer kepadan. Like the science of monotheism, and knowledge relating to worship. Revelation
True science is always escorted by the revelation. Therefore, the source of knowledge from Allah SWT. And the essence of science is to seek happiness, while the highest happiness is salvation in the hereafter. In the Islamic perspective, knowledge is not the case akliah (ratio) alone.
